At
the command of Their Royal Majesties, all are invited to join in a Nordic Winter Carnival
(festivities and feast in the Norse, Germanic and Celtic styles of Northern and Central Europe).
The
event takes place at John C. Calvin Presbyterian Church at 1130 E. Broadway Road, Apache Junction, AZ 85220. The event
is from 1PM to 9PM. The site is dry, with no alcohol is permitted. Smoking
is allowed in designated areas outside of the building. No animals are allowed.
A
Nordic style feast for 100 will be offered. The feast is a buffet style for the general populace. Please remember to bring
your feast gear.

(Many dishes included here are populace choices):

Appetizers: Assorted breads, butters and cheeses

Salads: Fresh greens with tomato, cucumber and red onion tossed with olive vinaigrette

Meats: Brined Roast Pork with carrots and onions; Rosemary Chicken

Sides: Roasted Root Vegetables with honey vinegar marinade, Green Beans in butter
with fresh minced garlic, Red Cabbage

Dessert: Rice Pudding with lingenberry sauce
The Atenveldt
Ladies of the Rose will be sponsoring a Royal Dessert Contest, with prizes for desserts
“Best Tied to Nordic Winter Carnival Theme”, “Most Yummy” and “Most Medieval-Style
Dessert”. Entries must feed 10-12 people so they may be shared with the populace after judging.
A special
Nordic Mistress of Ceremonies has agreed to coordinate entertainment, including a traditional carnival mask procession
(please bring your masks!).
There will
be dancing, instrumental and vocal performances, traditional games (including
a variation on the Lord and Lady Misrule Cake called “breaking of the wreath”), board games and contests (pie
eating, best horn blowing, best theme garb), a puppet show and a performance by Commedia Del’Arte.
